Quick update
Back in Texas. It's about 11am on the 13th. We arrived late afternoon on the 11th. I guess I'll keep blogging as long as people keep reading. Am here (in Texas) until the 26th. My sister arrives the 19th and Jonathan flies down the 23rd.
The trip with my parents was good, but the big news is that Tigger (our 15 yr old cat) had a mild stroke while we were away, either on the 29th or 30th. It seems to have affected his motor skills mainly. Luckily we board him at the vet's, so they were able to give him extra attention - gave him antiobiotics and steroids and handfed him and injected fluids under the skin. They said the first day he wasn't able to stand up without falling over, and for a while he couldn't eat - couldn't judge where his food was and couldn't get his face to it. He's much improved now (about 80% said the one who took care of him over the past two weeks), but still quite wobbly. His third eyelid on his right eye is also partially closed all the time and the pupil doesn't seem to dilate properly. When he shakes his head hard, he often falls over. He tries to eat by himself now, but I think whatever muscle control he's lost extends to his mouth. We've raised the bowls on a shoebox so he doesn't have to bend over and lose his balance, but he splatters food and can't even finish a handful at a time. He's lost quite a bit of weight. He always used to like to be escorted to his food bowl, but now he seems to do even better if someone stays with him the whole time, petting and talking to him - maybe for moral support.
I was hoping to get to Austin while I'm in Texas - mainly to see Fuji, maybe visit Jodi and Arden too, but with Tigger in this state someone really needs to be with him all day to make sure he eats and cuddle with him. I may try to get up there after my sister arrives.
I got into the postbacc programs at NYU and Columbia, and I'm leaning toward Columbia - not only because it's a well-established program, but also because they sent me a whole package of information (by FedEx no less), including Financial Aid info and the like... unlike the one page I received from NYU. It just seems clear that Columbia will take better care of me.
Am behind on email and such, so if you wrote me in the past two weeks and I haven't replied yet, I apologize. Will get back to you soon, I promise.

hey indu,
welcome back.
r from afar
I say Columbia (not that I'm completely biased or anything) =D I like that it has a sense of a campus. I'm so sorry about your cat and I hope that his health continues to improve and he gets stronger. I'm glad Tigger has such a supporting family.
